a dim light bulb, maybe needs a change

When business feels heavy, it's the small shifts that can make a big difference

Do you ever feel like your business has become a little heavier than you imagined it would be?

You started out full of ideas, excitement and possibility but somewhere along the way, the joy got buried under admin, second-guessing or simply just too much “should do” instead of “want to do.”

This came up recently in a workshop I hosted and I wanted to share some of the big takeaways because I think they’ll resonate with a lot of us.

1. Acknowledge Where You’re At

Sometimes we think that being stuck, frustrated or unmotivated means we’re failing. The truth? It just means we’re human. The first step in moving forward is to actually name how we’re feeling in business without judgment.

One of the most powerful things someone shared in the workshop was

“I feel like I’ve lost my spark.”

That honesty alone was the start of finding direction again.

2. Reconnect with Your Why

When you’re spinning your wheels, it’s usually because you’ve lost sight of why you started in the first place. Maybe it’s time to ask yourself

  • What part of my work feels energising?

  • What do I want my business to give me (beyond money)?

  • Where do I feel proudest?

Sometimes your next step isn’t a big strategy shift, it’s simply remembering why you said yes to this in the first place.

3. Keep It Simple

We live in a world that tells us success equals “more”.

More social platforms, more content, more offers. But the truth is, most small businesses thrive on less, less noise, less complication, less pressure.

One theme that came up again and again was the relief people felt when we stripped things back. Simplicity gives you room to breathe.

4. Play With Structure

Structure doesn’t have to mean rigid routines and strict rules. It can simply mean knowing what your focus is each week or creating little rituals that help you stay consistent without burning out.

Things like

  • Setting aside one day a week for client work and one for creativity.

  • Using co-working (online or in person) to stop procrastination.

  • Creating habits that support your energy instead of drain it.

Small tweaks in structure can feel like freedom, not restriction.

5. The Power of Community

One of the “aha” moments people had was realising they’re not alone. Business can feel isolating, especially when we compare ourselves to the highlight reels online. But sharing the messy middle, the doubts and the small wins creates connection.

A connection that creates momentum.

My Takeaway for You

If your business feels heavy, you don’t have to burn it all down or start from scratch.

Sometimes all it takes is
✨ Honesty about where you’re at
✨ Reconnecting with your why
✨ Simplifying your next step
✨ Adding just enough structure
✨ Leaning on a community

Because when business feels lighter, you get to show up in the way you always wanted — with energy, creativity and purpose.
