Realising Corporate Life wasn't for Me
After spending 15 years in corporate leadership, my world shifted
when I had my two children. Suddenly, the 9-5 grind no longer made
sense for the life I envisioned. I needed flexibility, time with my kids &
more control over my day.
This realisation led me to take a leap - I opened my own Pilates studio & began my journey as a well-being advocate.
Even though I had made all these changes, I still felt like I was failing.
No matter how many strategies I tried, how many to-do lists I made, I couldn’t shake the feeling of being stuck.
I was always exhausted, ironically neglecting my own self-care while teaching others about wellness. I found myself obsessed with losing weight, drinking too much & never making time for myself.
As an entrepreneur, the isolation was real. It felt like nobody understood what I was going through, especially as someone with ADHD, navigating overstimulation & attracting people who didn’t get me.
My life felt heavy & overwhelming.
My Breaking Point & Turning Things Around
The turning point came when I stumbled upon an article that struck me deeply. It stated that a key factor in a child’s mental health & success is the happiness of their mother. That hit me hard, I realised that if I didn’t start taking care of myself, it would not only affect me but my kids, too. I had to make a change.
Over the next six months, I committed to creating an action plan that would change my life. I started prioritising myself, focusing on the activities that would not only grow my business but also fuel my joy. One of the biggest transformations came from developing five simple daily habits.
The most impactful of these habits? Waking up earlier.
Even though I’ve never been a morning person, I pushed my wake-up time from 7:45 a.m. to 5:45 a.m., Monday to Friday. Those extra two hours each morning gave me 10 additional hours a week - 40 hours a month - dedicated solely to myself. I used that time with purpose, not for work or others, but for me.
For years, I lived undiagnosed with ADHD & I unknowingly created systems that helped me cope. I could cram for exams, excel in interviews & understand situations that weren’t serving me. I also struggled with overstimulation & being around people who drained my energy. People often labelled me as “too much” or called me a “drama queen.” I have spent much of my life misunderstood.
Despite these challenges, I thrived in my career. I married someone who truly gets me, & we’re raising two wonderful kids. I’ve stopped apologising for how brightly I shine. Although I was excelling in some areas, I realised I needed a system to manage both my business & my family life. Through self-reflection & planning, I created habits that transformed my mental health, productivity & time management.
Now, I’m passionate about helping others find their own systems, especially fellow women who are navigating neurodiversity, parenthood & entrepreneurship.
